This is one of the ‘out buildings’ at the Taj Mahal. The central building quite rightly attracts the majority of attention but also sitting alongside are the subsidiary tombs and living areas.

The cupola at the top of the building is where the Maharajah would site to gaze across to his beloved’s tomb and allowed for the cooler airs to circulate around his royal party.

It’s well worth reading the back history of the buildings, the long term plan was to build a counterpoint in black marble directly across the river, but the Maharajahs children, fearing complete bankruptcy imprisoned him in the Fort of Agra from where he could see but not visit the tomb of his beloved wife Mumtaz.
