Mapua – from the estuary South past Rabbit Island

I’ve dropped again into my archives to use a photo from the holiday camp we stayed at for about 7 years.

Situated at the top end of the South Island this region has a climate that differs strongly from those around it, calmer days with more warmth and slow moving cloud formations impacted by mountain ranges to the East and West which also dry the air.

Also by sitting on the coast the air masses move in and out (almost tidal) and cause high stable formations especially at evening. I had many chances to capture images like this one.

From memory this was mid-evening and very still with the estuary at almost full tide.
